Scholarship for students: APPLICATION OF REFUGEES

Supports students at risk

Ukrainian refugees who present a residence permit in accordance with Section 24 (1) of the Residence Act or the corresponding fictional certificate at the start of the funding can be funded. If you have a different residence status (e.g. §16) at the application deadline, this must be changed. Refugees can apply to us if they are eligible for BAföG. This means that they have been lawful, permitted or tolerated in Germany for at least 15 months without interruption. If someone is in the asylum procedure, this person is not entitled to BAföG. In this case, it only makes sense to apply for a scholarship if the asylum procedure is completed promptly or has already been completed. All those involved in the selection process are aware that the requirement of commitment and proof of its commitment in the country of origin can be difficult for refugees. Of course, the commitment to others (refugees), e.g. in the shelters or the like, is also appreciated. It is important that the people who apply are willing to stand up for others. The letter of reference from a person of trust (e.g. teacher, supervisor) offers the opportunity to prove this commitment.

Detailed Information

Qualifications
The Central Office for Foreign Education decides which qualifications are specifically recognised. When it comes to the recognition of academic achievements already achieved in the country of origin, it is relevant for us which periods of study the respective university takes into account and for which semester the placement is made. The University Guarantee Fund offers refugees advice to clarify educational opportunities in Germany. Applications can be submitted before the start of their studies (regardless of whether they are Bachelor's or Master's degrees). However, if the applicant is accepted into the scholarship programme, the scholarship will only be paid when the applicant begins his or her studies. It is important that the applicant has at least 3 semesters left before the end of the standard period of study. The minimum regulation is lifted if the Master's degree is pursued consecutively. Preparatory courses and language courses are not funded.
