Ernst Mach Grant – UKRAINE

Eligible for application are current scholarship holders of the Ernst Mach Grant - Ukraine, namely: a. Students pursuing a Bachelor, Diploma or Master programme at an Austrian public university, private university, university of applied sciences, university of teacher education or at an Austrian University Preparation Programme. Fee-based postgraduate courses (such as LL.M., MBA etc.) are not eligible for the application; b. Students pursuing a doctoral/PhD programme in Austria. Required documents for the application The following documents have to be uploaded with the online application: a. Students (Bachelor, Diploma, Master or at an Austrian University Preparation Programme): current confirmation of enrolment or proof of registration at the University Preparation Programme confirmation of positively passed exams in Austria in the last semester. Applicants must provide a proof of exams covering at least 16 ECTS or provide a proof of successfully passed exams at the University Preparation Programme b. Students pursuing a doctoral/PhD programme in Austria: confirmation of enrolment for the current semester confirmation of the supervisor about the progress of the dissertation General Information: New applications are not accepted. If applicants retake their examinations after the application deadline, proof of exams worth at least 16 ECTS for the relevant semester can be submitted before 15 May or 15 December, respectively. The maximum duration of the funding applies in accordance with the Special Guideline for the Granting of Federal Funds "Ernst Mach Grant Ukraine", in its current version. Only a current degree pursued in Austria without interruptions can be funded within this programme. Please note the regulation on reporting commitment at the bottom of this page. Applicants must be admitted to their target university at the time of the application. Applicants must comply with the admission regulations of the respective university in Austria There is no legal claim to a grant even if all application requirements are fulfilled. The number of grants that will be awarded during one call depends on the quota and/or the available budget. Applicants may apply for several grants at the same time. Grant holders must be present at their place of study in Austria to study or conduct their study or research project. Once an application has been rejected, it will not be considered any further. However, it is possible to re-apply for this grant with a revised application before deadline for applications.

Selection procedure: The selection follows a multistage process: 1. Examination of the formal requirements 2. Examination of the application's general plausibility 3. Final decision by the BMBWF Further information: The Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF) and the OeAD do not guarantee that a stay in Austria or at the host institution, including the journey, will be possible if a scholarship is granted. The scholarship holders have to decide themselves whether or not they want to embark on their studies or research stay. The BMBWF and the OeAD do not assume any liability – especially in case of trips to/through countries or regions for which travel warnings exist – for any complications or resulting additional costs or damages that may arise during your stay at or the journey to your destination or host institution. It is strongly recommended that you take out adequate health, accident and repatriation insurance that is valid at your destination. You, the scholarship holder, are responsible yourself for taking out insurance. The scholarship holder must observe the current conditions of the host institution regarding attendance/participation as well as the current entry conditions and the travel advice of the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs (BMEIA). Scholarship holders are not allowed to engage in any non-scientific gainful employment above the low income threshold (551.10 Euro in 2025). Marginal employment does not have to be reported to the OeAD. Reporting commitment: Four weeks after the end of each semester, at the latest, and prior to the payment of the final scholarship instalment, scholars must submit their Transcript of Records with a minimum of 16 ECTS per semester or a proof of successfully passed exams in the University Preparation Programme. PhD/doctoral students must provide confirmation from their academic supervisor about the progress of their dissertation. Otherwise, there is a reason for discontinuation and repayment of the scholarship. Grant contract/grant award: Grant recipients will be issued a grant contract (Letter of Award, Scholarship Conditions and Letter of Acceptance). It defines the following: start and end date of the grant, grant amount, payment modalities, compulsory attendance at the guest institution, performance report and final report, data protection, repayment obligations and other conditions and requirements.
