IncLUsion

Supports students at risk

Are you currently seeking asylum in the Netherlands and do you have an academic background? You’re in the right place. The IncLUsion initiative makes it possible for refugees who are not (yet) able to register as students within the Dutch education system to follow courses at Leiden University. IncLUsion also provides community, social activities, and a buddy system offering practical assistance during your studies. As an IncLUsion student, you can follow a maximum of two undergraduate courses free of charge. These are one-semester, English-taught courses, for which you will not receive study credits (EC). IncLUSion provides a unique opportunity to deepen your knowledge in fields that interest you. This is your chance to explore subjects that fascinate you, learn from experienced lecturers, and be part of a university environment while adjusting to the Dutch educational system. Not part of a bachelor or minor As you will not receive study credits (EC), your IncLUsion courses cannot be counted towards a (future) bachelor’s programme or minor. The true value lies in the knowledge you will gain. Upon completion, you will receive a certificate of participation.

Procedure
Applications are currently closed. You can apply online via this page once applications re-open. Applications open each year in May and October for the upcoming semester. Limited places: detailed application There are limited places available and decisions on admission are based solely on the information you provide in your application form. Therefore, when applying, make sure to provide full details of your previous education, motivation for applying, and whether you need assistance in covering travel costs. Incomplete or inaccurate applications will result in missed opportunities. After submitting your application form, it is not possible to submit additional information to support your application. After applying IncLUsion receives a large number of applications each semester, which means we have to make a selection. Selection is based on your abilities and where you live. If you meet all criteria, you will either be directly admitted, or invited for an interview to verify that your academic background and English are sufficient to successfully follow courses. After admission, you will be invited to indicate which of the available courses you would prefer to follow. Note: decisions on admission are final and cannot be contested.
