Qualifications
An eligible undergraduate degree programme via UCAS and receive a conditional or unconditional offer to study at Ulster University for September 2024 entry by 31 May 2024.
An eligible postgraduate degree programme and receive a conditional offer to study at Ulster University for September 2023/January 2024 entry by 31 May 2024.
Please also note that you have to apply for your university place AND to Ulster University for the Scholarship by completing the online application form.
And:
Applicants must have applied for asylum in Northern Ireland before applying for a place at University and must be currently resident in Northern Ireland, to be considered for a scholarship;
Be a dependant of someone with discretionary or limited leave to remain as a result of an application for refugee status
OR
You or your parent/guardian have submitted an asylum application and not yet received a decision from the Home Office on your application.
You are not eligible for mainstream UK student funding due to your immigration status i.e you are not eligible for student finance for 2024/25 academic year.
You must live within a commutable distance to the Ulster University campus offering the course you have applied to.
You must confirm that you do not require support for living expenses or accommodation.
You must submit an application for a place of study on a full time undergraduate course starting in academic year 2024/25 at Ulster University through UCAS by 31 May 2024, or through the Ulster University Online Application System for a full time postgraduate course starting in academic year 2024/25 by 31 May 2024.
You must hold a conditional or unconditional offer OR have ‘decision pending’, status from Ulster University by 31 May 2024. You will also be required to meet any academic and language conditions attached to your offer.
Applicants must meet these strict eligibility criteria and be in a position to verify their circumstances in order to apply.
Applicants who do not meet the criteria will not be considered for the scholarship.
You must be able to provide evidence that you have sought asylum in Northern Ireland and that your asylum application is under consideration by the Home Office. Students who have refugee status are not eligible for this scholarship.
You must return a completed scholarship application form to include documentary evidence regarding immigration status by 31 May 2024
Tuition fees will be waived during on line enrolment
You must register online on your programme of study before semester one commences.
Scholarships will be awarded for academic year 2024/25 and may not be deferred to another academic year.
Students must request authorisation from the Head of Admissions before making any changes to their programme of study. Where changes are made without authorisation, the scholarship may be withdrawn.
Your scholarship will be renewed for each year of your course providing you satisfactorily progress through to the next year of study and you maintain your registration as a full-time student and are not eligible for student finance support.
You must inform the Head of Admissions of any changes to your immigration status during your studies. You must consent to regular UKVI immigration history checks to verify full immigration status.
If you receive a notification of a change in your Asylum Status which means that you become eligible for student financial support from the UK government, you must make an application for support for the next academic year. For example, if you start a course with Asylum Status in September and are then granted Refugee Status in November, you must apply for UK government student financial support for all future academic years of the course.
If at any point during the application process or after you start your studies, we are informed by the Home Office that you should not be studying at University, you will no longer be eligible for the award. We will deem you withdrawn and you will be expected to leave your studies immediately.
